The Experimenter

The Experimenter celebrates the process, not the tool, testing and retesting potential scenarios to make ideas tangible. A calculated risk-taker, this person models everything from products to services to proposals in order to efficiently reach a solution. To share the fun of discovery, the Experimenter invites others to collaborate, while making sure that the entire process is saving time and money.

Since childhood, my parents always complained, I opened up the new toys and tried to reassemble them. It showed in each and every aspect of my career. During my first job, STRETCH DENIM was not a reality, I designed and collabarated with Weaving dept. to weave 1000 m of denim. It was not noticed a lot. I was ahead of time. In India, nothing is acceptable if indeginious, copying from the west is acceptable always.

Throughout my career I have come across many new technologies. experimented and a proto type and final version was created. Due to lack of other skills as defined in “Ten Faces of Innovation”, I failed in a few.

A must read book for everyone who are starting a new business in any area.

Being an Innovation Evangelist at Wipro Technologies (NYSE: WIT), my role spans a Story teller, Cross-pollinator, Experimenter and Collaborator. Here’s my story of as an Experimenter:

Innovation Bazaars and Wipro Innovation Camp (WiCamp) were two of the recent experiments that I took up my organization. Talking of Innovation Bazaar: it forms the essential ‘Science Exhibition format’ where teams come and display their ideas, inventions and innovations. On the buyers side, there are business units, their R&D teams and central innovation group that would fund or enable growth of these. We had two Innovation Bazaars so far with a moderate response from the teams, but the format has clicked with people.
For the WiCamp: these are un-conference styled gathering which we conduct every fort-night calling people to talk on their experiments and experiences on innovation and creativity. These WiCamps are open for people from outside our company to attent and gain from. Some of the attendees include: Students, Professionals, Start-ups, VCs, etc.
